Descriptions
I was wondering what to write and thought about sharing this piece
of incident with you all.
It was a friday evening.I was quickly wrapping up my work.I had booked a ksrtc bus to my native from Kochi.I had called in them twice to make sure they collect me from boarding point, which was somewhere on the way for them.
them up and they once again confirmed that the bus is stuck inthe
traffic and may take more minutes to reach there.I decided to open one
chocolate as my stomach was already growling louder than the crowd.I was
munching away one chocolate and looking out on the road.Time flew.No bus
stopped for me, no one called any names,no one rang me.I called them up and to
my dismay, they informed that the bus had left the stop 2 minutes back.I knew
at that very instant that they didnt stop. They were lying. Now I need to make
effort of chasing the bus. I requested for the bus staff number.I called them
several times and then called back to the ksrtc office. They gave me another
number, which was picked up instantly. They shocked me by saying that they
reached Angamali and here I am waiting with chocolates in hand at Kochi. They
told they'll wait for me at the Angamali bus stand.I knew very less about the
place and even lesser about the distance between them.I stopped an auto and
asked him to take me there. He gave me a weird look and took off without a word.
It was already 10pm.I stopped 2-3 autos
and the response never changed. The last auto guy took the courtesy
of telling me that it's too far to go by an auto.I was aghast! I saw a group of
old men in white, decent dressed and decided to check with them.
They told me its late and not safe for me to travel in autos/taxi
at this time and they tried stopping few bus, but all of them were traveller
bus and they didnt have any seat to spare for my journey to Angamaly.I kept
getting calls from the bus staff.I decided to go to ksrtc office and get this
fixed.Should teach them a lesson to have a lone girl missed out inspite of
several reminder calls from my end.
I dont know which direction was the ksrtc stand. The old men were
discussing on the possibilities of me reaching Angamaly.I went to them and told
my decision.Looked like none of them approved.I felt I was being handled by too
many grand fathers.I convinced them that I can makeit. They offered to come with
me.I didnt want to burden them anymore. They helped me cross the road and waited
for the right bus , a volvo to the stand. When I got in , they told the driver
to let me know when the stop comes.I felt protected. They waved to me and I
smiled.Total strangers and they behaved as though I was their daughter. I
smiled and waved back and I knew thats the last time I'm seeing my group of
grandfathers.
There's goodness around somewhere.
I took my seat. It was already 11:30pm.The grandpas had warned me
about the bus stand I'm headed to.All kinds of labourers will be there and
thieves too and even old people of their age should be judged twice.
The bus stopped and I stepped out into the haunted bus stand with
strange looking people and the smell was terrible.I chalked my way into the
office, which looked like a den.As soon as I came in, they seemed shocked to
see a girl in the office at midnight.I told my seat number and bus, which was
supposed to pick me at 8pm, as per the ticket. They recognised me the very
instant. My silence broke and I started shouting at them helplessly. One of them
brought in a complaint book to register a complaint against the bus staff.By
that time, I found peace.I didnt want to screw any one's job but I requested
the office people to let him know my case.
A police was called in and requested to escort me for the next
bus, which was expected to reach at 1am.I went out to the crowded area and
waited.Half an hour had passed.People started giving me dirty looks from from
all angles.
I ignored all and stood behind the so called police. Then the office guy came running and informed that if we stand with crowd here in the bus stand, the girl will never get a seat.So they asked me to walk behind them to stand in a different place, so that they can catch the bus and help me board midway and I would get a seat too.
I was pleased with their decision but the path we were headed to gave me goosebumps. It was 1:30 am and I was walking with "Police" and another random "Guy" along a route which was isolated.I had all kinds of thoughts.I remembered not checking the police ID to confirm if he wasnt a fake one.I felt that Its the end. I had my luggage on and my phone was surviving with the last block of battery.I had read about incidents where the victim couldnt identify the criminals. So I decided to video graph the path and where we were walking to and the 2 people in front of me. I congratulated myself for this brave move. I was new to this place and didnt have close friends whom I could call for help. But decided to leave a message regarding my location for a colleague.I captured their faces properly without them knowing. Thanks to the loads of movies I had watched.I kept a distance and did not stand with them while waiting. I sat on the steps of a shop.Time 1:45 am.I did not inform my parents, as I didnt want to startle them.2am.The two of them looked back occasionally and asked me to come and stand with them.I said I'm fine. The recording was still on.Suddenly they shouted something to me and the office guy came running to me.I knew this was the time.I had to hit him there. Then I would tackle the police. These thoughts happened in fraction of seconds.
He stopped near me and took my bag. I was confused. He told " Thats your bus!! COME!" My mouth fell. OMG.They were waiting with me in this cold to help me get into the bus safe. And I was deciding on my kungfu step to break their neck.
As I got into the bus, they took my number and asked me to take care. They also told sorry for making me stand in the cold.I was feeling bad for them. But I smiled wide and told "Thankyou.. for helping me go home safe"
I got a seat and gave a long sigh.Too many things in few hours. And a lesson learnt well.I was lucky enough to have good people around at the right time.If not..Just wanted to warn all the ladies out there, be cautious , so that we dont have to repent later.Take steps to make sure you're safe.
I reached my native in the morning and the first call was from the
police and the ksrtc staff to ensure I'm home.I thanked them many times and
kept the call.I felt protected. But I know it's not the case always.
